Dental implants can give you a beautiful smile and a sense of self-confidence you might not have imagined possible. If you have missing or failing teeth, implants can change your life forever. Thankfully, most people are good candidates for a dental implant procedure.

You Can Probably Have Implants

As long as your gums are healthy and your jawbone is fully developed, there is a very good chance that you will be able to have implants. You need enough bone in your jaw to be able to support your implants. There are, however, some cases where people who have suffered some bone loss in the jaw can still have implants.

Your dentist will perform a thorough evaluation in order to make sure your jaw, gums and the rest of your mouth will be able to support implants. This will involve the use of an X-ray and possibly a CT (computed tomography) scan to look for any areas of bone loss.

Potential Exceptions

Unfortunately, there are some people who are not candidates for implants. For example, some people who have cancer, diabetes or severe gum disease might not be a good fit. The reason is that the implants may not take hold. People who have an impaired immune system due to medications or a health condition may not be good candidates either.
